won the first of five Super Bowl titles in 1972. And then there was that little ol' TV show,
the top-rated series in the US from 1980 to '82. Dallas was back, louder and prouder than
ever - a roll it's been on with hardly a bump in the road since.
Sights
Most of Dallas' major sights are blissfully compact, which you'll appreciate all the more
on hot days. Downtown museums and Arts District attractions are in areas easily traversed
by either walking or taking the McKinney Ave trolley - in fact, there's no reason to drive
between them. Outside of these areas, the major cultural attractions lie in Fair Park, 3
miles east of downtown.
DALLAS & FORT WORTH IN…
Two Days
It's time to get your history on (yep, Dallas has a serious side). Relive the epic events of the early 1960s by taking
a stroll through
Dealey Plaza
, the site where JFK was shot in 1963. After chatting with various conspiracy theor-
ists on the
Grassy Knoll
, take a deep breath and head up to the moving
Sixth Floor Museum
. After a stop in the
Old Red Museum
for a peek into Dallas' past, head over to the
Kennedy Memorial
to pay your respects. Lunch
at the
Zodiac
will give you a vivid window into a classic Dallas tradition (and feel free to shop at the original
Neiman Marcus
while you're at it). You're probably in a reflective mood, so wander over to
Thanks-Giving
Square
. (Shoppers, skip the reflection and go to the
West Village
.) Evening, chill out in
Deep Ellum
and im-
merse yourself in Dallas' old-school musical roots at one of the many nightclubs.
Spend the next morning in the
Arts District
and check out either the
Nasher Sculpture Center
or the
Tram-
mell & Margaret Crow Center for Asian Art
before dashing off to Fort Worth's
Stockyards
. Grab a burger
and a shake at the
Love Shack
and check out the 4pm
cattle drive
. Walk around and soak up the cowboy action
before heading to the cafes and bars of Magnolia Ave.
Four Days
Rest your head in Fort Worth so that come morning, y'all can gallop over to the
National Cowgirl Museum
, and
then explore the fabulous
Kimbell Art Museum
. Stroll around the
Cultural District
before heading back to Dal-
las, stopping for some thrills at
Six Flags Over Texas
.
Day four, spend the morning visiting anything you missed in the
Arts District
and then head north for lunch in
the charming little town of
McKinney
. Back in Dallas, hit the funky
Bishop Arts District
to poke around the
shops. Dinner and drinks are your call. What's left that grabs your fancy?
