DON'T MISS
THE PINK PIG
Main Street suffered a loss when Rather Sweet Bakery & Cafe closed down. ('But, but... the cupcakes!?!?') But
we're happy there was a really, really good reason for it: the owner, Rebecca Rather, was hard at work opening a
new restaurant: The Pink Pig ( 830-990-8800; www.pinkpigtexas.com ; 6266 E US Hwy 290; lunch $9-12,
dinner $18-28; 11am-2:30pm Tue & Wed, 11am-2:30pm & 5:30-9pm Thu-Sat, from 10am Sun).
It'd be easy enough to miss, since it's about 10 minutes southeast of town on Hwy 290, but it's worth the trip.
Pick up baked goods or a boxed lunch from the bakery counter, or stay and enjoy a meal inside the historic log
building, where Southern-inspired dishes like shrimp and grits or pulled pork are imaginatively prepared.
Of course, it should go without saying that when you dine at a restaurant opened by a woman with the title of
The Pastry Queen, you definitely have to save room for dessert.
Orientation
Most of the action on Main St happens between Washington and Adams St (the latter di-
vides Fredericksburg addresses into east and west). Most shops and restaurants are on (or
a block off) Main St, starting near the prow-like facade of the former Nimitz Hotel (now
the Museum of the Pacific War) and continuing to Friedhelms Bavarian Inn, where US
290 and US 87 split.
