tacos are the big draw at this little cafe in a former gas station, but the cupcakes and coffee
drinks are pretty tasty, too. It's also mighty generous with the wifi.

Hondo's on Main

midnight Fri & Sat) Named after local legend Hondo Crouch, this hoppin' place caters to your
need for both food and fun, with live music on the patio five nights a week. It's famous
for its 'donut burger', which has more to do with the way the patty is formed than the ac-
tual ingredients.
Silver Creek Restaurant

great compromise when only some of you want schnitzel, this place serves both American
and German dishes, mostly under $20, though the steaks can get a little spendy. Its shady
patio is a great place to hang out - and one of the only places to go on a Monday night.

Altdorf Restaurant & Biergarten

4pm Sun) German food is a Fredericksburg staple, and while no single restaurant knocks it
out of the park, this place is as good as any for Bavarian-style specialties, with a tradition-
al beer garden where you can get your oompah on.

Hill Top Café
( 830-997-8922; mains $12-25; 11am-2pm & 5-9pm Tue-Sun) Ten miles north of town inside a
renovated 1950s gas station, this cozy roadhouse serves up satisfying meals and Hill
Country ambience at its best. Reservations recommended. On weekends the owner,
Johnny Nicholas, a former member of the West Coast swing band Asleep at the Wheel,
plays the blues. Reservations are recommended.

Navajo Grill

more upmarket, head straight to the Navajo Grill, which boasts a lovely patio, creative
Southern cuisine and a list of about 40 different wines. Reservations recommended on
weekends, especially in the spring.
