in the midpriced-motel category, this place was built to look like the historic house it sits

Hangar Hotel $$
( 830-997-9990; www.hangarhotel.com ; 155 Airport Rd; d $109-179) If you didn't know better, you'd
think this rounded, barnlike structure right on the tarmac of the Gillespie County Airport
was a converted hangar from the 1940s, but it's actually a new building with a fun avi-
ation shtick. The Observation Deck is a great place to watch the small aircraft buzz in and
out, or you can just throw open your windows for a similar effect.
Roadrunner Inn
( www.theroadrunnerinn.com ; 306-B E Main St; d $129-189; ) If you want to ensure your lodging is
doily-free, check out one of the three smartly retro rooms that feature kitchenettes, Jacuzzi
tubs and flat-screen TVs. Make bookings through Main Street B&B Reservation Service

Bed & Brew
( 830-997-9900; www.yourbrewery.com ; 245 E Main St; d $99-129) Here's an amenity you don't find
just anywhere: beer. The 12 rooms owned by the Fredericksburg Brewing Company are
right upstairs from the brewery, and each day you get a free sample of suds (which helps
explain its no-kids policy). Some of the eclectic rooms have themes and some don't; the
crazy Red Stallion room has a mural of big red mustangs stampeding toward the bed.
