Cheatham St Warehouse
( 512-353-3777; www.cheathamstreet.com ; 119 Cheatham St; 3pm-2am Mon-Fri, from 4pm Sat, 4-8pm Sun)
Down by the railroad tracks in an old warehouse covered in corrugated tin, sits this 1970s-
era honky-tonk that has helped launch many a career, including George Strait and Stevie
Ray Vaughn, who both had regular gigs there in the early days. Their signature event is
the Wednesday night Songwriters Circle.
You can catch free shows during happy hour every weekday between 5:30 and 7pm.
San Marcos hasn't banned smoking, so don't be surprised to find some enthusiastic
smokers sitting next to you.

San Marcos Premium Outlets
( 512-396-2200; www.premiumoutlets.com ; 3939 S IH-35, exit 200; 10am-9pm Mon-Sat, to 7pm Sun) There
are 140 name-brand factory-outlet stores at this enormous - and enormously popular -
shopping complex. Outlet shops at the mall offer at least a 30% discount on regular retail
prices and sometimes as much as 75% off brands. Stores include Last Call by Neiman
Marcus, Tory Burch, Calvin Klein, J.Crew and Coach, just to name a few.
MALL
Tanger Outlets
( 512-396-7446; www.tangeroutlet.com/sanmarcos ; 4015 S IH-35; 9am-9pm Mon-Sat, 10am-7pm Sun)
What? You're not exhausted yet? You still have money left to spend? Just south of the
Premium Outlets is the Tanger Outlet center - if you weren't paying attention, you might
not even notice it's a separate mall.
Stores include a few big names, but for the most part they're not as high end as they are
across the street. Think Old Navy, Van Heusen, Reebok and such.

The San Marcos Tourist Information Center ( 512-393-5930; www.toursanmarcos.com ; 617 N IH-35, exit
204B/205; 9am-5pm Mon-Sat, 10am-4pm Sun) has maps, brochures and information on trolley
tours of the town's historic districts. Since San Marcos is so close to San Antonio, visitors
rarely need to avail themselves of overnight accommodations.
