colonial period of Texas history. Overall, a cheerful (and affordable) place to soak in the
ambience.

11am-2am) Sure, this hopping chain restaurant serving standard pub grub is touristy but,
well, so is the Riverwalk. The main reason to give in to Dick's is the purposefully and
comically obnoxious service. (Let's just say its name is no coincidence.)

( 210-224-8484; 421 E Commerce St, Riverwalk; lunch $8-12, dinner mains $20-32; 11am-11pm Sun-Thu, to
midnight Fri & Sat) This brightly colored restaurant is hugely popular with locals. Fresh
guacamole is made right at your table. The upscale Tex-Mex menu reveals some gourmet
surprises, such as black bean soup made with sherry and white cheddar, lobster tail fajitas
drizzled with pineapple pico de gallo (salsa), and wines from Texas and California.

Fri & Sat) This is one of the most justifiably praised restaurants in town, run by chef Bruce
Auden. The menu is a wonderful mix of European, Tex-Mex, American and Asian influ-
ences that probably don't cost as much as they should (certainly not what they could). It's
stylish yet welcoming, and the wine list is impressive.

( 210-472-2277; www.bohanans.com ; 219 E Houston St; most mains $25-60; 5-10pm Mon-Thu, to 11pm Fri &
Sat, to 9pm Sun) This place takes their steaks seriously and, at these prices, so should you.
Lots of people can appreciate a great steak, but you'll treasure the experience even more if
you're the type of person who throws around terms such as 'Akaushi beef.' These cows
were raised in a humane and healthy fashion, and possibly given pedicures too, from the
sound of it.
