The downtown Amtrak station ( 512-476-5684; www.amtrak.com ; 250 N Lamar Blvd) is served by the
Texas Eagle that extends from Chicago to Los Angeles. There's free parking and an en-
closed waiting area but no staff. Fares vary wildly.
Getting Around
TO/FROM THE AIRPORT
Ground transportation from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport can be found on the
lower level near baggage claim. A taxi between the airport and downtown costs $25 to
$30. Capital Metro runs a limited-stop Airport Flyer (bus 100) service between the airport
and downtown and the UT for just $1 each way, with departures every 40 minutes. Check
with Capital Metro (CapMetro; 512-474-1200; www.capmetro.org ) for exact schedules. It takes at
least 20 minutes to get downtown from the airport, and 35 minutes to reach the UT cam-
pus.
SuperShuttle ( 512-258-3826; www.supershuttle.com ) offers a shared-van service from the air-
port to downtown hotels for about $14 one way, or a few dollars more to accommodations
along N I-35 and near the Arboretum mall.
BICYCLE
A grand bicycle tour of greater Austin isn't feasible, due to interstate highways and the
like, but cycling around downtown, South Congress and the UT campus is totally doable.
There are also miles of recreational paths around the city that are ideal for cruisin'. Check
www.austintexas.gov/bicycles for a route map.
Say what you will about Lance Armstrong, you can still count on him to find you a
pretty good bike. Located right downtown, Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop
