( 512-472-0961; 2315 Lake Austin Blvd; noon-2am) This great little neighborhood bar is known
for its excellent jukebox, loaded with almost a thousand tunes in all genres. Yep, it's a
dive, but a top-rate one.

Hula Hut

( 512-476-4852; 3825 Lake Austin Blvd; 11am-10pm Sun-Thu, to 11pm Fri & Sat) The hula theme is so
thorough that this restaurant feels like a chain, even though it's not. But the bar's sprawl-
ing deck that stretches out over Lake Austin makes it a popular hangout among Austin's
nonslackers.

CHICKEN-SHIT BINGO
We love Ginny's Little Longhorn Saloon any old time, but for a uniquely Austin outing, you've really got to ex-
perience the Sunday-night phenomenon known as chicken-shit bingo. Beer-swilling patrons throw down their
bets of $2 per square and wait to see what number the chicken 'chooses,' with the whole pot going to the winner.
The chicken doesn't seem to mind, and most Sundays local favorite Dale Watson keeps everyone entertained
while they wait for the results to drop.
Entertainment
Austin calls itself the 'Live Music Capital of the World,' and you won't hear any argu-
ment from us. Music is the town's leading nighttime attraction, and a major industry as
well, with several thousand bands and performers from all over the world plying their
trade in the city's clubs and bars. Most bars stay open till 2am, while a few clubs stay hop-
pin' until 4am.
You can get heaps of information on the city's whole entertainment scene in the Austin
Chronicle or the Austin American-Statesman' s XLent section, both out on Thursday.
XLent has an ultrastreamlined 'Club Listings' chart that lets you plan your evening's en-
tertainment at a glance, but the Chronicle 's night-by-night encyclopedia of listings often
includes set times (handy if you'd like to hit several venues in one night), plus music crit-
ics' picks and local gossip to really plug you into the scene.
Advance tickets (which may be cheaper) for major venues are sold through Star Tickets (
800-585-3737; www.startickets.com ) ; it also handles some performing-arts and sports events.
