Seaside Fishing Villages
Towns such as Matagorda, Rockport and Port Aransas may all be home to harbors and
shrimp-fishing fleets, but you'll also find sea-themed shops, boat tours and quaint accom-
modation.
Padre Island
The largest of Texas' barrier islands, Padre Island stretches 113 miles. In the north near
Corpus Christi, commercial and residential areas with beaches give way to the pristine
70-mile-long Padre Island National Seashore.
World Birding Center
Nine individual sites scattered along the Rio Grande Valley make up the World Birding
Center. Interesting year-round, winter is when the most birds come to roost.
