In-Depth Information
Wine
Texas has two major viticulture areas, which are home to the state's most celebrated
wineries: the High Plains surrounding Lubbock and the Hill Country west of Austin and
San Antonio. Popular varietals are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Pinot
Noir.
Hard Liquor
Tequila is the most popular 'round these parts, if for no other reason than it's the main in-
gredient in margaritas. The unofficial state cocktail of Texas, margaritas are made with
tequila, lime juice and triple sec, then served either on the rocks or frozen, in a glass with
a salted rim. A few restaurants stake their reputations on specialty flavors, such as mango
or watermelon. Don't knock 'em 'til you've downed at least one.
