Figure 8.10 shows the discharge hydrographs of the Shahe River. The Shahe River is 80 km long, which
is a parasitizing river of the Luanhe River. The Shahe River was an abandoned channel of the Luanhe
River after an avulsion of the delta channel. Flow occurs in the river only in July and August when
rainstorms happen. Because the flood stage rises and falls very sharply and there is no water flow in the
river during dry season the ecology in the river is poor. Weir and lock construction is the strategy to store
water and improve the ecology.
