In-Depth Information
KAPITI COAST
With wide, crowd-free beaches, the Kapiti Coast acts as a summer playground and suburb-
an extension for Wellingtonians. The region takes its name from Kapiti Island, a wildlife
sanctuary 5km offshore from Paraparaumu.
The mountainous Tararua Forest Park forms a dramatic backdrop along the length of the
coastline and has some accessible day walks and longer tramps.
The Kapiti Coast makes an easy day trip from Wellington, but if you're after a few rest-
ful days there's enough of interest to keep you entertained.
Information
The Coast's official visitor centre is Paraparaumu i-SITE ( 04-298 8195; Coastlands Mall, Rimu Rd;
9am-5pm Mon-Fri, 10am-2pm Sat & Sun) , located within the Coastlands shopping centre, where
you'll find all manner of other useful services such as banks, ATMs, post office and super-
markets.
