Around Palmerston North
Just south of 'Student City' in the underrated Horowhenua district,
Shannon
(population
1250) and
Foxton
(population 2650) are sedentary country towns en route to Wellington.

Foxton Beach
is one of a string of broad, shallow Tasman Sea beaches along this stretch of

The town of
Levin
(population 19,550) is more sizeable, but suffers from being too close
to both Wellington and Palmerston North to warrant the through-traffic making a stop.
