MODERN NZ, SEAFOOD $$
( www.35south.co.nz ; 69 Marsden Rd; shared plates $10-15, mains $25-30) Service was a bit disorganised
when we visited, but you can't beat the over-the-water location in central Paihia. The
menu is at its best with local oysters and fish and the shared small plates. Try the tempura
fish tortillas, and maybe share a dessert of Dutch raisin doughnuts.
Drinking
God bless backpackers: they certainly keep the bars buzzing. There are plenty of places
along Kings Rd and in the town centre to explore, so don't feel hemmed in by our list.
