In-Depth Information
WWI intervened and the empire was lost before Franz Josef's grand scheme for the
Ringstrasse could be fully realised. By then, however, Gustav Klimt and contemporaries
of his generation were pushing Austria in new directions.
Friedensreich Hundertwasser abhorred straight lines. He moved towards spiritual ecology, believing
that cities should be in harmony with their natural environment, a philosophy that is represented meta-
phorically in his 'wobbly' KunstHausWien and Hundertwasserhaus in Vienna.
