Buses make the trip between Krimml and Zell am Ziller (one way including toll €8.70,
1½ hours) in Tyrol from 1 July to 30 September. By car, you can avoid using the toll road
by following the (easy-to-miss) signs to Wald im Pinzgau, 6km north of Krimml.

dances to a different tune in winter. The skiing at Ahorn and Penken is some of the coun-
try's finest, a double whammy of cruising and kamikaze in the shadow of the glaciated
Zillertal range, and the après-ski is the hottest this side of the Tyrolean Alps.

Winter Activities
Snow-sure Mayrhofen has varied skiing on 159km of slopes, mostly geared towards con-
fident intermediates, as well as some great off-piste opportunities. The skiing ranges from
scenic tree-lined runs for cruisers to knee-trembling black runs, including the infamous
Harakiri, to challenge experts. The
ski pass
(one-day pass €47) is valid for all cable cars,
snowboard parks and lifts in Mayrhofen.

Mayrhofen provides
easy access to year-round skiing on the Hintertuxer Gletscher; the cable car is an attrac-
tion in itself, gliding above sheer cliff faces and jagged peaks to the tip of the ice blue
glacier. The sundeck at 3250m affords phenomenal views of the Tuxer Alps and, on clear
days, Grossglockner, the Dolomites and Zugspitze. From Christmas until early May, a
free bus shuttles skiers from Mayrhofen to the glacier (included in the ski pass).

Snowboarders are in their freestyle element in six areas with 11
kickers, 34 boxes and rails and a half-pipe at the Vans Penken Park in the Penken area,
ranked one of Europe's best terrain parks.
