Carinthia's flagship museum has lots of exhibitions on
natural and cultural history. It was closed for restoration in 2013 and is expected to re-
open again by 2016.

With the largest collection of keyboard instruments in Europe (more than
1300), this quirky museum is literally a 'fingers-on' museum: you are able play most of
the organs, including rare items such as a Model A Hammond from 1934 and many
more. Live bands perform on Friday nights (except July and August) at 8pm (€10).

Pick up the excellent free walking brochure (in English) from the Klagenfurt tourist office. Free guided tours de-
part from the office at 10am each Friday and Saturday in July and August.

Dragon Fountain
Neuer Platz, Klagenfurt's central square, is dominated by the 16th-century Dragon Foun-
tain, the emblem of the city. The blank-eyed, wriggling statue is modelled on the
Lind-
wurm
(dragon) of legend, which is said to have resided in a swamp here long ago, de-
vouring cattle and virgins.
