wood-fired pizza, the menu is packed with Austrian faves such as schnitzel and venison
goulash with dumplings at this galleried villa. Pull up a chair on the maple-tree-shaded
terrace when the sun's out. There's often live Tyrolean music on summer evenings (see

Trout fresh from the stream outside is the big deal at this quaint chalet restaurant, with a
terrace for warm-day dining. You might begin with creamy pumpkin soup and move on
to, say, grilled trout served with parsley-butter potatoes. There's a dedicated menu for
kids. Eva's Fischerstüberl is 1km south of the train station.
Hofkeller

this stone cellar beneath the Salzburger Hof hotel for warming up over fondue, a raclette
cheese fest or hot stone specialities. Kids menus are available.

here, go left from the train station exit and walk down the hill. Staff will find you accom-
modation free of charge. There's information on the national park in the foyer.
Getting There & Away
CAR & MOTORCYCLE
Driving south, you'll need to use the Autoschleuse Tauernbahn (railway car-shuttle ser-
vice) through the tunnel that starts at Böckstein (one way/return €17/30). On the A10
Tauern-Autobahn from the north (Salzburg), take the Gasteinertal exit near Bischof-
shofen, then the B167.
