In-Depth Information
Sleeping
Krimml makes an easy day trip from Zell am See or Mayrhofen in Tyrol, but it's a shame
not to stay the night as the village has Pensionen and farmstays with bags of character.
Winter prices go up by roughly a third from standard rates.
GUESTHOUSE
Burgeck Panorama Hotel
( 72 49; www.burgeck.com ; Oberkrimml 79; s/d/apt €54/84/85; ) Scenically perched above
the village and next to forest, this guesthouse is run by the kindly Bachmaier family and
has terrific waterfall views. The recently renovated rooms are modern, while others are
done out in rustic alpine style. Kids are well catered for with a playground and, in winter,
an illuminated toboggan track right on the doorstep.
Hölzlahneralm
( 0664-402 68 78; www.hoelzlahner.at ; dm €20, without breakfast €14; May-Oct) This wood-shingled
farmhouse is a superb budget choice. You'll need to do the legwork - it's a two-hour hike
from Krimml via the Krimmler Wasserfälle - but that makes the Kaspressknödel (dump-
ling in gooey Pinzgauer cheese) all the more welcome. The ecofriendly chalet generates
its own electricity, uses natural spring water and has comfy bunks for weary walkers up-
stairs.
HOSTEL
Hotel Klockerhaus
( 72 08; www.klockerhaus.com ; Oberkrimml 10; d incl half-board €106-116; ) Plenty of pine
keeps things cosy in the rooms that have waterfall views and in the lounge with an open
fire. There's a small spa with a sauna, saline steam bath and treatments such as Tibetan
massage, as well as an untreated outdoor pool.
