Im Weissen Rössl
( 23 06; www.weissesroessl.at ; Markt 74; s €158-184, d €228-388; ) St Wolfgang's most
famous hotel was the setting for Ralph Benatzky's operetta The White Horse . Rooms are
individually styled and somewhat idiosyncratic, but the more expensive ones have a bal-
cony and view over the lake. There's a large wellness area, and two pools - one pool lit-
erally floats on the lake (heated to 30°C), and another is indoors. It also has several good
junior suites.

Decked out like a petrol station, this chilled-out restaurant-bar is an unusual place to curl
your fingers around a drink, accompanied by wings and potato wedges, pasta, salads or
grills. Check out the charming balcony.

(Markt 74) There are two restaurants and a lovely wine cellar in this highly respected hotel.
The Seerestaurant (kitchen open all day, most mains €12.50 to €19) tempts with regional
and international dishes, while the Romantik has à la carte dining (dinner only, mains €25
to €31) and an exceptional six-course menu for €60.50.

Helpful staff, at the eastern tunnel entrance; a wi-fi hotspot. A smaller branch (Michael-

9am-noon & 2-5pm Jun-Sep) is located near the northwest end of the
road tunnel.
Getting There & Around
The only road to St Wolfgang approaches from Strobl in the east. Boats run to St Gilgen
roughly half-hourly May to early September (adult/child €7.10, 45 minutes), tailing off to
every couple of hours in shoulder seasons (May, September and October). Paddle-wheel
and vintage boats complement these (€1 surcharge). A Postbus service runs between St
Wolfgang and St Gilgen (€4.20, 50 minutes) with a connecting transfer in Strobl. For
