Schlossbergplatz/Murinsel (for lift)) Ask any local where to find the best outdoor dining experien-
ce in Graz, and they'll probably say Aiola. Whether it's king prawns with pasta or corn-
fed chicken, this wonderful restaurant on Schlossberg has great views, delicious interna-
tional flavours, a superb wine list, spot-on cocktails and very chilled music.

STEAK €€
( 83 00 83; www.elgaucho.at/graz ; Landhausgasse 1; steak €16-45, side dishes €3; 5pm- midnight Mon-Fri,
11.30am-midnight Sat & Sun; 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 Hauptplatz) Set inside the evocative Renaissance
Landhaus building, El Gaucho would seem an unlikely place to feast on Argentine and
local steaks. The scene is lit in relaxing crimson and decorated with hanging glass
bubbles, lending an easy-going feel, which you can enjoy at the bar till late (2am).
Steaks are grilled to perfection, and the excellent schnapps and liqueur trolley is well
worth calling for, whether following a bottom-shelf 'lady steak' (150g) or to digest a top-
shelf (600g) rib-eye.

JAPANESE €€
( www.yamamoto-sushibar.at ; Prokopigasse 4; udon €7.70-10.20, mains €12-18; Tue-Sat; 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
Hauptplatz) Yamamoto is refreshingly authentic; it's Japanese owned and run. It gets its
sushi delivered throughout the week, so it's always fresh and, like the noodle dishes, deli-
cious.
