From mid-November,

(Christmas markets) start to pop up all over Vienna. Ranging from
kitsch to quaint in style and atmosphere, the markets all have a few things in common: plenty of people, loads of
Christmas gifts to purchase, mugs of
Glühwein
(mulled wine) and hotplates loaded with

potato patties) and

(roasted chestnuts). Most close a day or two before Christmas Day. Some of the best:

Situated inside the Albertina, the Austrian Film Mu-
seum shows a range of films with and without subtitles in the original language, featuring
a director, group of directors or a certain theme from around the world in programs gen-
erally lasting a couple of weeks. Screenings are generally at 6.30pm; check the website
for other times.
