Staatsoper is the premiere opera and classical-music venue in Vienna. Productions are
lavish affairs: the Viennese take their opera very seriously and dress up accordingly. In
the interval, be sure to wander around the foyer and refreshment rooms to fully appreci-
ate the gold and crystal interior. Opera is not performed here in July and August (tours,
however, still take place), but its repertoire still includes more than 70 different produc-
tions. Tickets can usually be purchased up to two months in advance.

acoustics of any concert hall in Austria and is ranked among the top 10 in the world. The
interior is suitably lavish and befitting the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which often
plays here. Tickets are available online, by phone or at the box office. All tickets are
available up to seven weeks in advance.

classical-music circles, but throughout the year ethnic music, rock, pop or jazz can also
be heard in its hallowed halls. Students can pick up €14 tickets 30 minutes before per-
formances; children receive a 50% discount.

mental premiere performances, such as Beethoven's Fidelo , Mozart's Die Zauberflöte
and Strauss Jnr's Die Fledermaus , and has reestablished its reputation for high-quality
opera, premiering a new opera each month. Unlike the Staatsoper, it has opera perform-
