A SLICE OF ITALY IN THE INNERE STADT
One of the most useful places to know about in the Innere Stadt is Zanoni & Zanoni MAP GOOGLE MAP (
512 79 79; www.zanoni.co.at ; 01, Lugeck 7; ice creams from €1.30; 7am-midnight; Stephansplatz).
This Italian gelataria and pasticceria has some of the most civilised opening times around (365 days a year) and
is just right when you realise you'd like a late-night dessert - there are about 35 varieties of gelati, with more
cream than usual. It does breakfast and some great cakes with cream, but best of all it's a buzzing place on a
Sunday where you can linger over a coffee and plan your moves for the day.
Eating
Vienna has thousands of restaurants and cafes covering all budgets and styles of cuisine,
but dining doesn't stop there. Kaffeehäuser (coffee houses) and Heurigen are almost de-
fining elements of the city, and just as fine for a good meal. Beisln , the Austrian cross
between a bistro and pub, is normally a simple restaurant serving the best of Viennese
cuisine.

SAUSAGE STAND
(01, Albertinaplatz; sausages €3.70-4.10; 9.30am-5am, drinks from 8am; Karlsplatz, Stephansplatz,
Kärntner Ring/Oper) Vienna has very many sausage stands but this one located behind the
Staatsoper offers the contrasting spectacle of ladies and gents dressed to the nines, sip-
ping beer, wine or champagne while enjoying sausage at outdoor tables or the heated
