In-Depth Information
Monkey Hill
Visitors will not be surprised, given this hill's name, when they encounter macaque
monkeys on the way up this hill. A television station prevents climbers from reaching
the hill's actual summit, but one will find many worthwhile views of the ocean and
city through the trees on the hillside (For further details see Monkey Hill ).
Radar Hill Viewpoint
Some 1,640 ft (500 m) above sea level, the tallest point on Phuket is home to a weath-
er station whose domed roof can be clearly seen from the beaches below. Steep roads
wind up toward the summit but stop just short of the entrance to the military-con-
trolled buildings. The drive affords several staggering views of Phuket.
Phi Phi Viewpoint
A delightful destination for watching the sunrise or sunset, this viewpoint on Ko Phi
Phi Don requires a 30-minute stroll. At a height of 610 ft (186 m), it isn't the top of
the world, but the views of Tonsai and Loh Dalum bays, and of Ko Phi Phi Ley, are
breathtaking. Signs pointing the way can be found in Loh Dalum Bay.
Helicopter Charters
For the most thrilling views of the island, and stunning photo opportunities, heli-
copter tours offer a breathtaking way to see Phuket from above. A number of private
flight companies offer chartered sky tours over Phuket's brilliant white-sand
beaches, emerald waters, and mangrove coasts, as well as Phang Nga's majestic lime-
stone cliffs. A 10-minute flight costs around B5,000.
