These extremely friendly folks rent bikes and sandboards and have a good selection of
camping gear; they're located west of town on Main St/Hwy 160.
JACK DEMPSEY MUSEUM
Manassa is home to a tiny one-room cabin (412 Main St; 9am-5pm Tue-Sat Jun-Aug) where Jack
Dempsey was born as the ninth child of a poor mining family. It was a destitute childhood, but Dempsey
channeled his hardship into boxing, and from 1919 to 1926 reigned as the heavyweight world champion. Boxing
fans will enjoy the collection of memorabilia. Manassa is located in between the towns of San Luis and Antonito.

For chain accommodations, you have your pick - just head out along Hwy 160 to the
western edge of town.

pletely renovated in 2012, this family-run motel is the best-value option in Alamosa. It's
located west of town on Hwy 160.

Calvillo's
( 719-587-5500; 400 Main St; buffet lunch/dinner $10/12; 8am-9pm; ) The first place you'll see
as you turn onto Main St, Calvillo's is the place to eat in town - mostly thanks to its le-
gendary buffet. Chiles rellenos, enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, chicharonnes , and on and
on…the buffet also includes agua fresca (fruit-flavored water) and dessert, and there are
enough customers to ensure that fresh servings are constantly being dished out.
