ARTS
( 970-349-1184; www.crestedbutteartsfestival.com ; Elk Ave; ) For 38 years the Crested
Butte Arts Festival, in late July or early August, has drawn huge crowds and hundreds of
artists, musicians and food and wine vendors to Elk Ave for a wonderful free street party.
Artists from all over the US come to display and sell their weird and wonderful works.
Sleeping
Visitors to Crested Butte can stay either in the main town, which is better for restaurants
and nightlife, or in one of the many options at the mountain resort. Some of the Mt Cres-
ted Butte hotels and apartment buildings close over the shoulder seasons in spring and
fall, but others offer great discounts and longer-stay incentives - check the websites, com-
pare prices and bargain. If you've come for the hiking and mountain biking or to enjoy the
wildflowers, you can do very well at these times.
