In-Depth Information
The volunteers who staff the museum are true railroad zealots - one even reconstructed
a Galloping Goose engine outside from photos and sketches. The permanent collection
has maps, historical photos and a really cool diorama of the Pleasant Valley Trestle and
Motor No 2. It's also the de facto historical museum for the town, and it has good bro-
chures for a short self-guided tour.
Orvis Hot Springs
( 970-626-5324; www.orvishotsprings.com ; 1585 County Rd 3; per hour/day $10/14) The attractive rock
pools make this outdoor, clothing optional, hot spring hard to resist. Yes, it does get its fair
share of exhibitionists, but the variety of soaking areas, ranging from 100°F to 114°F
(38°C to 45°C) mean you can probably scout out the perfect spot. Less appealing are the
private indoor pools that feel a little airless. It's 9 miles north of Ouray, outside Ridgway.
