Eating & Drinking
Absolute Baking &
Cafe
( 970-533-1200; 110 S Main St; mains $6-10; 7am-2pm; ) The screen door is always
swinging open at this town hot spot with giant breakfasts. Try the green chili on eggs - it's
made from scratch, as are the organic breads and pastries. Lunch includes salads, big
sandwiches and local, grass-fed beef burgers. Grab a bag for the trail, but don't forgo a
square of gooey, fresh carrot cake.
If you're in the market for a new read, the cafe has a decent collection of used books for
sale, so grab a cup of coffee, chat with friendly waitstaff and just chill out.

Olio
(114 W Main St; mains $18-28; 4-9pm Tue-Sat) This friendly, upscale cafe is the spot to hit for a
glass of wine and cheese boards with fig jam. Highlights include deviled eggs, and light
items like watermelon salad, and local lettuce served with shaved fennel, cherries and
aged balsamic. In addition to being pretty original, it also caters well to vegan and gluten-
free diets.
Fahrenheit Coffee Roasters
(201 W Grand Ave; 6:30am-5pm Mon-Fri, 7am-5pm Sat; ) Imbued with the aroma of fresh-roas-
ted beans, this quality espresso house also serves slices of homemade pie and cheap
breakfast burritos to go. It also provides interesting atmosphere, with small-talking locals,
outdoor sofas and Oz-like art installations.
CAFE
Mancos Valley Distillery
( www.mancosvalleydistillery.com ; 116 N Main St; 5pm-late Fri & Sat) If you're interested in tasting
something really local, make your way to this alley-side rum distillery, where artisan dis-
tiller Ian James crafts delicate rum. He opens up his distillery to live blues and bluegrass,
but generally only for special occasions. Check the website for more information.
