B&B $$
( 970-533-9838; www.flagstonemeadows.com ; 38080 Rd K-4; d incl breakfast $115-125; ) This elegant
ranch is a decidedly more romantic option than any of the motels in town. Guests sit on
the deck to enjoy the stars at night, or warm themselves by the field stone fireplace. Dur-
ing the day it's dead quiet; you can take in big views across the plain to Mesa Verde or
walk on nearby trails.
Echo Basin Ranch
( 970-533-7000; www.echobasin.com ; County Rd M; cabins per night/week from $139/722; ) Traveling
with horse? Stop for the night at Echo Basin Ranch, an affordable unstructured dude
ranch. The A-frame cabin accommodations are very cool (as long as you don't mind rus-
tic, and by that we mean basic). We love the pitched roof and big windows - very Rocky
Mountain high.
The deluxe cabins are not posh, but plenty comfortable, with multiple rooms and more-
artistic decor. There is a two-night minimum to stay here, and it is much cheaper (and in
scale with what you pay for, amenities-wise) if you stay at least four nights. Dogs are wel-
come, and horses stay for $10 per night. The ranch offers a host of activities, from guided
horseback riding to a putting green. The on-site restaurant and saloon mean you don't
have to drive to eat. Echo Basin is about 7 miles from Mancos.
