In-Depth Information
( 970-384-2024; 730 Grand Ave; sandwiches $8-9; 7am-7pm, to 6pm winter; ) This organic cof-
fee shop serves up veggie breakfast burritos and a decent lunch menu of simple sand-
wiches and homemade soup. Folk bands occasionally pop up outside the front window
and in the summer there's breezy outdoor seating.
Taqueria El Nopal
(2902 Hwy 82; tacos from $1.95, plates $9.50-15; 10am-9pm Tue-Sun; ) With Salvadorian
pupusas (thick stuffed tortillas) and a fantastic variety of tacos (from cactus to carne as-
ada, skirt steak), the offerings here go well beyond the usual Col-Mex fare. There are also
seafood specials and various plates ( pollo asado, roast chicken), but it's the freshly made
tortillas that seal the deal. It's located on Hwy 82 at the southern edge of town, just past
29th St.

This casual industrial space is easily Glenwood Springs' hippest hangout, with bare fila-
ment bulbs hanging over the tables and an open kitchen in the back. Dishes tend to have a
creative twist, landing somewhere between modern American (wheat berry tabouli with
cranberries and chevre) and upmarket Italian (gnocchi salad, sweet potato agnolotti).
Juicy Lucy's Steakhouse
( 970-945-4619; www.juicylucyssteakhouse.com ; 308 7th St; lunch from $9.75, dinner mains from $19.75-36.50;
11am-9:30pm Mon-Thu, to 10pm Fri & Sat) Despite the cornball name, people love Lucy's be-
cause staff cook the meat perfectly and eschew the mannish brass-fitted steakhouse pos-
ture for a small-town-cafe feel. It serves game and fish dishes and has a good wine list,
but the side of cheesy au gratin potatoes nearly steals the show.

Glenwood Canyon Brewing Company
( 970-945-1276; www.glenwoodcanyon.com ; 402 7th St; 11am-11pm Mon-Thu, to midnight Fri & Sat)
You'll do better to eat elsewhere, but the beers here are fresh and the night scene is lively.
The lighter beers on the spectrum - particularly the Hanging Creek Honey Ale and Red
Mountain ESB - are the best, though the fresh root beer is truly outstanding.
