4WD tours, bike rental, and horseback rides, but it's best known for guided hikes to some

Westin Riverfront Resort &
Spa
( 970-790-6000; www.starwoodhotels.com ; 126 Riverfront Lane; d summer/winter from $220/439;
) Perched on the Eagle River, this Avon-based resort is connected by both gondola
and public shuttle to nearby Beaver Creek. There's a lovely modern mountain-lodge motif
in the lobby accentuated by soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows with epic moun-
tain views, and it's arguably the most stylish choice in the area.
Rooms are likewise tastefully indulgent with wood floors in the foyer, a sitting area, a
flatscreen above the fireplace, a kitchenette (in some), king beds and fabulous views. It
rents multi-room condos too. The sole detractor is that it's not slopeside.

Ritz Carlton
( 970-748-6200; www.ritzcarlton.com ; 130 Daybreak Ridge; d summer/winter from $350/900;
) Previously listed as a top Colorado resort by Travel & Leisure, included on Condé
Nast's gold list, lauded for family and pet friendliness and a prized wedding destination,
Ritz Carlton, it's fair to say, won't disappoint. It's all about skiing in and out of luxury
here and it's as grand and secluded as a 220-room hotel can be.
