the grill (rotisserie chicken with heirloom tomatoes, grilled trout with key lime butter),

Lionshead
Moe's Original BBQ
( www.moesoriginalbbq.com ; 616 W Lionshead Circle; plates $10; 11am-9pm) You'll put on some pounds
at this blues-driven barbecue chain, but the unpretentious roadhouse vibe is a refreshing
change from the rest of the resort. Plates get you one main (smothered in BBQ sauce) and
two sides - wash it down with a can of PBR.
BARBECUE $
El Sabor
( http://elsaborvail.com ; 660 West Lionshead Pl; mains $10-20; 7:30am-10pm) Located right next to the
Eagle Bahn Gondola, El Sabor wins points more for its location than its cuisine. You can
find some decent $7 specials (fish tacos, tamale plates) here on weekdays; otherwise, hit
happy hour for the best prices.

West Vail
Yellowbelly
( www.yellowbellychicken.com ; 2161 N Frontage Rd, unit 14; plates $10; 11am-8:30pm; ) It may be
hidden in West Vail, but man is this fried chicken good. Although we could tout the
healthy side of things (non GMO, free-range, veggie-fed birds), it's the dynamite gluten-
free batter that earns this place its stars. Spicy, tender pieces of chicken come with two
sides (brussel slaw, citrus quinoa, mac and cheese) and a drink; alternatively, order an en-
tire rotisserie bird for the whole gang.
SOUTHERN $
Westside Cafe
( 970-476-7890; www.westsidecafe.net ; 2211 N Frontage Rd; mains $7-13; 7am-10pm; ) Set in a
West Vail strip mall, this is the most popular breakfast spot in the area among locals. It
does terrific all-day breakfast skillets, like the 'My Big Fat Greek Skillet' with scrambled
eggs, gyro, red onion, tomato and feta served with warm pita, along with all the usual
high-cal offerings you need for a morning on the slopes.
