DON'T MISS
DINNER WITH A VIEW
Two of Vail's best restaurants aren't in the village at all, but high up on the mountain, with unrivaled settings and
great views.
The Tenth ( 970-754-1010; www.the10thvail.com ; Look Ma Run, Mid Vail; lunch $16-24, dinner
$29-39; 9am-2:30pm daily & 3-9pm Tue-Sat Dec-mid-Apr; ) And you thought ski lodge fare had to
be tasteless frozen burgers and microwaved nachos. No longer: the Tenth ratchets up Vail's ski-in, ski-out dining
several notches, with a smorgasbord of gourmet alpine cuisine. Think elk bolognese ziti, pheasant pot pie, and
pan-seared cilantro halibut with lobster risotto. Or you could just have a brick-oven pizza.
If you're in a hurry to get back on the slopes, opt for the express menu in the bar area. Alternatively, pop in for
small plates and a hot cocktail for après ski. If you're coming for a meal, you'll need to reserve.
Game Creek Restaurant ( 970-754-4275; www.gamecreekvail.com ; Game Creek Bowl; 3/4 courses $85/95;
5:30-8:30pm Thu-Sat, 11am-2pm Sun, late-Jun-Aug, 5:30-9pm Wed-Sat Dec-Apr; ) This gourmet
destination is nestled high in the spectacular Game Creek Bowl. Take the Eagle Bahn Gondola to Eagle's Nest
and staff will shuttle you (via snowcat in the winter) to their lodge-style restaurant, which serves an American-
French fusion menu with stars like foie gras, elk steak and succulent leg of lamb. It also serves a mean brunch on
Sundays in summer. Reserve.
Eating
Although Vail lacks the depth and breadth of Denver's restaurant scene, it's nonetheless
one of the top spots in Colorado for a gourmet meal. During the summer, a vibrant farmers
market is held in front of the Solaris complex (E Meadow Dr) on Sundays.

SANDWICHES $
(
970-306-7280; www.bigbearbistro.com ; Hanson Ranch Rd; breakfast/lunch sandwiches from $5.95/8.50;
7am-7pm; ) Unless your accommodation includes a morning buffet, this is
where you come for breakfast. It serves gourmet coffee, tasty breakfast burritos and some
damn good sandwiches at lunch. We suggest 'the Masterpiece.' It comes with prosciutto,
capicola, salami, maple-glazed ham, balsamic-tinged arugula, banana peppers and
cracked-pepper aioli.
