al, the Breckenridge Music Institute and National Repertory Orchestra offer both summer
and winter seasons of stunning classical music at the Riverwalk Center, a heated amphi-
theater on the Blue River. There are more than 50 orchestral concerts and chamber recitals
each summer, and a half-dozen dates during the shorter winter season.
Ullr Fest
( www.gobreck.com ; early to mid-Jan) The Ullr Fest celebrates the Norse god of winter, with a
wild parade and four-day festival featuring a twisted version of the Dating Game, an ice-
skating party and a bonfire.

International Snow Sculpture Championship
( www.gobreck.com ; mid-Jan) The International Snow Sculpture Championship begins in mid-
January and lasts for three weeks. It starts with 'Stomping Week,' when the snow blocks
are made, proceeds with Sculpting Week, when the sculptures are created, and concludes
with Viewing Week, when the sculptures decorate the River Walk and are enjoyed and
judged by the public.

Mardi Gras
( www.gobreck.com ; mid-Feb) Breck's take on Mardi Gras features a Fat Tuesday parade
down Main St and a Bacchus Ball (New Orleans -style masquerade ball) at the Beaver
Run Resort.

Spring Fever
( www.breckenridge.com ; mid Mar) From mid-March through closing day, Spring Fever offers a
range of events, from concerts and competitions to chili cook-offs, an Easter-egg hunt and
celebrity athlete shindigs.
Kingdom Days
( www.gobreck.com ; mid-Jun) The 'Kingdom of Breckenridge' was declared after it was dis-
covered that the 1300 sq miles surrounding Breckenridge were not yet part of the US. The
Kingdom Days festival celebrates this 'independence' with gold-panning, woodcarving
contests, an outhouse race (someone call Steve-O) and historic walking tours.
