In-Depth Information
BRECKENRIDGE & SUMMIT COUNTY
Home to four big-time ski resorts, the Blue River, and historic Breckenridge, the aptly
named Summit County is close enough to Denver for a day trip but far enough away to feel
like you've truly escaped the Front Range sprawl. In summer, cyclists enjoy the endless
miles of paved bikepaths that connect the major towns, while boaters take to the enormous
Dillon Reservoir.

Dillon
POP 904 / ELEV 9111FT
The twin box-store towns of Dillon and Silverthorne are the first exit after passing through
the Eisenhower Tunnel. While Dillon can't compete with the historic appeal of Frisco or
Breckenridge, the marina and enormous Dillon Reservoir are certainly picturesque and a
big draw for boaters in summer. One of Summit County's fabulous paved bikepaths passes
the dam and wraps around the north side of the reservoir on the way to Frisco, while the
Outlets at Silverthorne draw in shoppers eager to find a deal on dozens of brand names.

and sailboats. If taking a sailboat, you should plan on shoving off after 11am when the
breeze generally picks up. Pontoons and runabout powerboats are best in the morning be-
fore the cold winds blow. The marina's Tiki Bar has a fab deck looking out over the reser-
voir.
