USFS Canyon Lakes District Office & Visitor Center ( 970-295-6710; 2150 Centre Ave, Bldg E; 9am-5pm
Mon-Fri) The Canyon Lakes Ranger District offers year-round information, and permits for
firewood gathering and grazing. It is the hub for information on four wilderness areas,
three national recreation trails, two historic districts and the Cache la Poudre, Colorado's
only Wild and Scenic River.
Getting There & Away
Fort Collins is 65 miles north of Denver, to the west of the I-25 corridor. Those arriving
by car should take the Prospect Rd exit to reach downtown. From Boulder, take US 36
east and follow signs for the Northwest Hwy.
Fort Collins/Loveland Airport is serviced by Allegiant Airlines ( 702-505-8888;
www.allegiantair.com ) by connections through Denver, Las Vegas and Phoenix. This is the
closest airport to Rocky Mountain National Park. You can also get here via Greyhound,
which has an unmanned stop at the Downtown Transit Center.
Getting Around
TO/FROM THE AIRPORT

This shuttle van shares services from DIA to Fort Collins (1½ hours), the Front Range and
southern Wyoming.
SuperShuttle ( 970-482-0505; www.supershuttle.com ; DIA to Fort Collins 1-way $32 ) From DIA, it's 1½
hours to Fort Collins.
BICYCLE
This town ranks among America's most bicycle-friendly cities. There are bike lanes (and
cyclists!) everywhere. To leave Fort Collins without cruising between breweries or along
the Poudre River Trail would be a shame. Bikes to rent and borrow are everywhere.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Downtown Transit Center ( 970-221-6620; 250 N Mason St; 7:30am-5:30pm Mon-Fri) With a customer
information counter, lockers and bicycle racks, this central bus terminal also serves as
Fort Collins' Greyhound stop. A train line from here to the South Transit Center is slated
to open in 2014.
