Boulder is tolerant and progressive, yet it is odd that such a with-it town could wind up with no gay bars. Local
activists have cobbled together enough events, including Boulder Pride Fest, and organized the community so ef-
fectively that there is a gay scene here even if it lacks a sense of bar 'ownership.'

This old movie-theater-turned-historic-ven-
ue brings in slightly under-the-radar acts like jazz great Charlie Hunter, the madmen rock-
ers of Gogol Bordello and West African divas, Les Nubians. But it also screens classic

and short-film festivals that can and should be enjoyed with a
glass of beer.
