West of the Pearl Street Mall, this popular apothecary offers Chinese herbs and organic fa-
cials, and has an attached acupuncture clinic. In addition it offers a range of deep tissue,
lymphatic, Swedish and sport massages by appointment. Travelers can get excellent
homeopathic remedies for altitude sickness, jet lag and the common cold.
The Flatirons
(Chatauqua Park; HOP 2) The iconic Flatirons, three pointed rock faces that provide the
backdrop to Boulder, aren't necessarily the most challenging climbs in the area, but they
must be climbed. The most popular route is the Class 5.6, 10-pitch First Flatiron 'direct
climb.' It's a slab crawl up 1000ft to amazing views in all directions, but it gets crowded
on weekends.
The classic Third Flatiron route is the standard east face (Class 5.4, eight pitches). It's
been climbed naked and in drag, but it isn't for beginners. Most push down in one 200ft
'super-rappel.' The access trail off the second-third Flatirons trail will put you at the base
of this route.

WATER SPORTS
Tube Boulder Creek
( 720-379-6056; www.whitewatertubing.com ; 3600 Arapahoe Ave; tube rental $16; 10:30am-6pm Jun-Aug)
Boulder's favorite summer ritual is to pick up an inner tube at this tubing and rafting cen-
ter and float down Boulder Creek from the whitewater park at Eben G Fine Park (Boulder Canyon
Dr) to 30th St. Speak to the staff about safety.
The park's high water and sculpted ledges can get rocking in early season, and you may
even get flipped. But the creek mellows below 9th St, and can get low in late summer,
leaving a much more placid whitewater park as the only navigable stretch.
Valmont Bike Park
( 303-413-7200; www.valmontbikepark.org ; Valmont Rd; 5am-11pm) With dirt trails and
some massive jumps, this new recreational bike park is the pride and joy of Boulder. You
don't have to be an adolescent to enjoy it, but do come as padded as possible - helmet
goes without saying.
