Morrison
POP 420 / ELEV 5764FT
Billing itself as 'the nearest faraway place,' little Morrison is a National Historic District
32 miles southwest of Denver on Hwy 8, hidden from the Denver skyline by the Hogback
rock formations. It echos the feel of some of Colorado's more remote mountain towns.
While the spectacular upturned red rocks on the banks of Bear Creek are an attractive es-
cape from Denver, most people visit Morrison either on the way to, or from, Red Rocks
Park & Amphitheater or to fuel up before climbing the big hills in the surrounding Jeffer-
son County Open Space Parks.
Sights & Activities
You'll see plenty of cyclists in the area; the smooth pavement and undulating terrain make
for excellent road biking. Excavations of what is called the Morrison Formation began in
1877 and have yielded fossils of more than 70 dinosaur species.
