There's no trouble finding a passable meal in Golden, though most of the sit-down eater-
ies are serving up a fairly uninspired roster of burgers, chops, pizzas and big salads. If
you're willing to look a bit harder, there are some real gems. On Saturdays between June
and September, the city hosts the Golden Farmers Market at the parking lot just west of
the library.

Not many people stay the
night in Golden, but if you have an extra day, you might just want to check in for a night
on the edge of the Rockies. Plus, once the sun sets, the locals take over town. The best
rooms in town are found in this old adobe hotel right smack in downtown. The large
Southwest-styled rooms have grand bedstands and patios looking out to Table Mesa. The
cantina downstairs is worth checking out.

family-operated hole-in-the-wall is worth seeking out for filling, flaky empanadas filled
with savory carnitas, seasoned chicken and cheese. The chili
arepas
(fried, stuffed corn
cakes) are also excellent. The tables are tiny, so it's probably best to get it on the go.

Crusty, fresh bread
and stacks of ingredients make this cozy deli an excellent place for lunch. The 'Heater', a
massive pile of pastrami, jalapeños, banana peppers and chipotle ranch, is the choice for
spice fiends. A second location on the creek also has excellent ambience.

After you make it past the ' watering hole ' part of the evening at Woody's, with its
selection of some of the area's best brews, order up a crusty, wood-fired pie. It's hard not
to love the laid-back locals and sustainable-business focus.
