In-Depth Information
( 303-936-3322; 1002 S Federal Blvd; mains $8; 9am-9pm; ; 30 RTD) The best place for pho
(noodle soup) in Denver is a bit out there, parked in the middle of a strip mall on a bleak
stretch of Federal, but slurping your way through a big, cheap bowl of noodles is worth
the hike.
Casa Bonita
( 303-232-5115; www.casabonitadenver.com ; 6715 W Colfax Ave, Lakewood; mains $12-18 (required for en-
trance); 11am-9pm Sun-Thu, to 10pm Fri & Sat) The food is horrible (think chili from a button,
greasy processed cheese and stone-gray guacamole), but this classic piece of American
(and Mexican) kitsch is so entrenched in Denver lore, you just have to visit. There's a
30-foot waterfall and cliff divers. And the landmark restaurant even made an appearance
in Colorado's other top cultural export: South Park.

Mataam Fez
( 303-399-9282; www.mataamfez-denver.com ; 4909 E Colfax; mains $30-33; 5:30-9pm Tue-Sun) Color-
ado's first Moroccan restaurant dates back to 1976. It's friendly, festive and spirited. The
menu is quite steep, but you get authentic Moroccan tastes, belly dancers and a dining ex-
perience that lasts for hours.
