Although styled as a midcentury drive-in, the upscale treatment of comfort
food (mac and cheese, fried chicken, lobster rolls) and the solar-powered kitchen demon-
strate Steuben's contemporary smarts. In summer, open garage doors lining the street cre-
ate a breezy atmosphere and after 10pm it has the most unbeatable deal around: a burger,
hand-cut fries and beer for $5.

On a quiet street corner a short walk from down-
town, the Avenue Grill has been dishing up interesting fusion creations for more than 20
years. Clam chowder, baby spinach and octopus salad, and tempura prawns are some of
the offerings given special treatment. The bright space is surrounded by windows with
pleasant lunchtime views of passing pedestrians.

This is a great place for a
simple pub-style meal and a beer. This former high-end restaurant has been reborn as a
gastropub with an excellent, select wine list. There's live music several nights a week, a
pool table and a lovely outdoors seating area. The crowd is eclectic and the wait staff is
friendly.

Shake
your palate to the samba beat at this beloved northwest Brazilian bistro. You woudn't
think it'd be this good from the strip-mall exterior, but enter and you have warm service
(what'd you expect?) and interesting plates that run from the requisite beef dishes to
coconut stews and traditional country offerings. Start your meal with a caipirinha.
