The Passivhaus buildings require around 85 % less energy for heating as
compared to a standard house built according to the requirements set by the Italian
law n. 10/ 1991 . 5 The total primary energy demand in these houses indeed,
including electrical appliances, is limited to 120 kWh/m 2 year. As recalled in the
preceding chapter, the Passive-On project was aiming at the extension of the
Passivhaus standard to Euromediterranenan climates, where the need for cooling is
much more important that the need for heating. The passive design tries to
maximize the thermal and environmental benefits that may arise by means of the
attentive analysis of the thermal performance of the building components and
