SAN FRANCISCO MUSEUM OF MODERN ART
Founded in 1935, the SFMOMA is the only museum in the western US de-
voted to collecting and exhibiting the full scope of modern and contempor-
ary art. SFMOMA is currently closed while it undergoes a massive building
expansion, offering more public areas, expanded educational facilities and
flexible gallery space for its growing collection. The new SFMOMA is due to
open in 2016. Extensive off-site programming and exhibitions of the collec-
tion will be on view at partner museums and be given on loan to museums

1. EXTERIOR
The building was designed by renowned Swiss architect Mario Botta. The 125-ft
(38-m) truncated cylindrical turret is decorated with Art Deco-style chevrons.

2. ROOF GARDEN
Featuring a combination of well-known, rarely seen works from the museum's collec-
tion, the Roof Garden is not to be missed. Sculptures by artists such as Louise Bour-
geois, Robert Arneson, and Alexander Calder are on display here.

3. 20TH-CENTURY EUROPEAN ARTISTS
These works are located on the second floor. Here you will find important works by
Matisse, Miró, Degas, Picasso, Braque, Klee, Mondrian, Duchamp, Dalí, and Mag-
