won't see it here—Elements just applies the filter to your photo using the filter's current set-
tings.
TIP
If you like using the Effects panel but you also want to see the Filter Gallery, click the
four-line square on the panel's upper-right corner (or above it, if the panel is docked in the
Panel Bin) and choose Automatically Show Filter Gallery.
The Filter Gallery
The Filter Gallery ( Figure 13-3 ) takes things one step further by showing you a preview of
what a filter looks like when applied to your image. It gives you a large preview window,
sailboat thumbnails so you can tell what each filter does, and (most importantly) it lets you
apply filters as if they were layers: You can stack them up and change the order in which Ele-
ments applies them to the image.
Some filters automatically open the Filter Gallery when you choose them from the Filter
menu or Effects panel, though you can also call up the Gallery without first choosing a filter
by going to Filter→Filter Gallery. The biggest drawback to the Gallery is that you can't ap-
ply every Elements filter from it—only some of the ones with adjustable settings.
