TIP
There's a helpful Black and White edit in Guided Edit→Photo Effects, which lets you ad-
just the photo's contrast and add a soft glow, if you like.
Elements also gives you an even easier way to convert a photo to black and white (but it's
an all-or-nothing scenario—you can't adjust the tones in the image): the Effects panel's
black-and-white tint effect. Open the Effects panel (Window→Effects), and then click the
Effects tab at the top of the panel (if it's not already selected). From the panel's drop-
down menu, choose Monotone Color, and then double-click the black-and-white tree to
apply the effect.
Also, some frames in the Graphics panel's Frames section ( Working with the Graphics
and Favorites Panels )—like a few of the Color Tint frames—automatically convert a
photo to black and white when you place it in the frame. Customizing Your Project ex-
plains how to use frames.
