In-Depth Information
Figure 9-7. You can reset the Clone Stamp (or, for that matter, any Elements tool) by clicking the
four-line square at the right end of the Tool Options area (circled) and choosing Reset Tool. (If you
want to reset the whole Tools panel, choose Reset All Tools instead.) This trick clears up a lot of
the little problems you may have when trying to make a tool behave.
This command uses the same Content-Aware technology that the Spot Healing Brush and the
Content-Aware Move tool (described later in this chapter) use, but it lets you quickly patch
large areas of your image. It doesn't always work, but it's so simple and quick to use that it's
always worth trying. When it does work, it's pretty impressive, as you can see from Fig-
ure 9-8 .
Here's how you use this command:
1. Use any of the selection tools described in Chapter 5 to make a selection of the
area you want to fix .
You may also want to create a duplicate layer (Ctrl+J/ -J) to use for filling.
TIP
It sometimes helps to expand your selection out a couple of pixels before filling,
especially if there's a strong contrast between the area you're filling and the sur-
rounding area, as in Figure 9-8 . Resizing Selections explains how to use the Ex-
pand command.
