In-Depth Information
straightened photo will be. You have to open the photo in the Editor to make Elements
apply the straightening.
â–ª Crop it . The Raw Converter has a Crop tool somewhat like the one in the Editor ( The
Crop Tool ) . To crop to a particular aspect ratio, click the Crop tool's icon (or press C),
and then right-click/Control-click in your image. To crop to a particular size, choose Cus-
tom from the shortcut menu, and then, in the dialog box that appears, enter the dimen-
sions. (You also need to select inches, centimeters, or pixels, or enter a custom aspect ra-
tio.) Your cropping info gets saved along with the raw file, so the next time you open the
file in the Converter, you see the cropped version.
As with straightening, Elements just draws a mask over the cropped area in the Convert-
er; you can still see the outline of the whole photo. To adjust your crop, make sure the
Crop tool is active, and then drag one of the handles that appear around the cropped area.
To revert to the uncropped original later, activate the Crop tool, and then right-click/
Control-click in the image preview and choose Clear Crop.
TIP
You can also fix red eye in the Raw Converter—the Red Eye Removal tool is in the tool-
box just to the right of the Straighten tool (keyboard shortcut: E), and it works the same
way it does everywhere else in Elements (see Fixing Red Eye ) . You'll have to open the
image into the Editor to use Pet Eye correction, though.
Adjusting White Balance
The pane on the right side of the Raw Converter window gives you lots of ways to tweak and
correct photos' color, exposure, sharpness, brightness, and noise level. The pane is divided
into three tabs. Start with the one labeled Basic, which contains, well, the basic settings for
the major adjustments. (The Raw Converter automatically opens to this tab.)
