The Sharpen Tool
Elements also gives you a dedicated Sharpen tool for working on specific areas of a photo
rather than the entire image. It's a special brush that sharpens just the areas you drag it over;
Figure 7-26 shows it in action. To get to it, click the Blur tool's icon in the Tools panel or
press R, and then, in the Tool Options area, choose the Sharpen tool (the triangle).
The Sharpen tool has some of the same Tool Options settings as the Brush tool (see Picking
and Using a Basic Brush for more about brush settings), as well as a few all its own:
Mode lets you increase the visibility of an object's edge by choosing from several differ-
ent blend modes; Normal typically gives the most predictable results.
Brush . You can choose a brush style here, but usually the one Elements selects is OK.
Size . You need to be fairly precise about the size of the brush cursor so you can target the
details you want to sharpen without affecting the surrounding areas.
